Looking for inspiration?

The following images, poems, stories and websites are all resources I dive into when I need inspiration.
Feel free to use and share them. If you are so moved, maybe send me some of your 'get out of bed' motivators.
I'd love to receive them.

I found this poem in the late 1980's on my first trip to Europe and the UK. Always using the Tube, I was captivated by '100 Poems on the Underground' and took a photo of this amazing poem by Sheenagh Pugh (1950) so that I wouldn't forget it.

I still have the print.

For more of about her and her poems go to:

Sometimes

Sometimes things don't go, after all, from bad to worse.

Some years, muscadel faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don't fail, sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war;
elect an honest man,
decide they care enough, that they can't leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best efforts do not go amiss,
sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow that seemed hard frozen:  may it happen for you.

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?  Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Made more famous by the great Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Speech.

And even Hollywood loves this poem

Risk

And then the day came,

when the risk to remain tight in the bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom

Steve Jobs' Standford Address

Viewed over 17 million times on Youtube, this is a motivational speech to beat all. I wonder if the Stanford graduates knew how lucky they were to hear Mr Jobs assess his life and draw the dots of the most pivotal points of his life.

Visioning the Future

Without wanting to be overly dramatic, sometimes we need a push towards visioning the future. Have a look at what many people say about what they would have done differently or whether they had any regrets in their last years of their life.
Do any of these resonate for you now?

The most common ones recorded are:

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me
I wish I didn’t work so hard
I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings
I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends
I wish that I had let myself be happier
